Welcome to Applied Classes

The Special Education department of Thurgood Marshall High School will provide an appropriate education for all students who meet eligibility as determined by the state of Texas eligibilities guidelines.
 
Instructional Services:
 
Mainstream with Modifications: Students are placed in a general education classroom and receive modifications for the general education teacher.
 
Content Mastery Classroom (CMC): Content Mastery is an instructional support service for identified Special Education students who receive their primary instruction in the general education setting. The service is based on the philosophy that ALL students can learn and succeed in a general education classroom with appropriate accomodations and support.
 
Resource (Applied Classes): Students with moderate to severe disabilities in specific content areas are provided services in a resource classroom. The IEP's (Individualized Education Plan) would determine if a student requires this service. Content areas: Math, Physical Science (IPC), World History/Geography, English.
 
Comprehensive Achievement Class (CAC 13): This class is designed for students who are in need of a highly structured educational program. The IEP's of these students will include Behavioral Intervention Plans in addition to the customary IEP.
 
Comprehensive Achievement Class (CAC 23): This class is also designed for students who require a highly structured instructional setting. This class has a very low staff to student ratio. The students in the class demonstrate cognitive delays along with severe behavioral challenges.
 
Comprehensive Achievement Class (CAC 33): This class is designed to address the needs of students with significant cognitive disabilities who require an educational program focusing on life skills such as personal care, pre-vocational activities, communication, functional academics and/or behavior management.
 
Related Services: These services are provided for students who meet eligibility for related services. These services are provided both in and out of the classroom setting. Services are determined by the ARD committee members. Services may include the following:
Speech Services
Adapted Physical Education
Vision Services
Psychological Counseling
Special Transportation
Occupational Therapy
Physical Therapy
