Career Day Volunteers Needed!
We are planning a Career Day for 5th grade students on May 30th. We need some parent volunteers to come up and tell our students about your careers! We would like to recruit as many Oakland parents as we can-not just 5th grade parents- but any that can come! We will have stations/rooms for the students to go to and learn about various career options. The students will rotate from group to group, so the presentations do not have to be very long. If you would be willing to come and present from 8:30-11:30 that day, or during part of that time, please contact the Counselor, Ashly Nance, at (281) 634-3748 or ashly.nance@fortbendisd.com

Safety Reminders and Changes
Parents, This is a reminder regarding visitors on campus and arrival/dismissal procedures. Arrival • Parents of car riders, please be courteous and always enter the car rider line at the end. • Be sure to arrive early enough for your child to be in class on time. Children may begin entering the building as early as 7:30am. Children must be in class by 8:10 or they are considered tardy. • Students arriving by car should be dropped off through the car rider line and not let out on Waterside Estates Drive or in the faculty parking lots. The number of students being dropped off on Waterside Estates Drive has become a traffic and safety concern. Please do not drop off students on this road. • All walkers and bikers must cross with the crossing guards and enter through the walker door by 8:05am. Dismissal (These procedures go in effect Monday, January 14, 2013) • Parents of car riders, please be courteous and always enter the car rider line at the end. • All vehicles in the CAR RIDER line must have an appropriate sign displayed from the rearview mirror until the child enters the vehicle. Students will have their card in hand so that staff members can match the name on the card to the name on the sign in the vehicle. If you do not have a sign, or need a new one, please contact your child’s teacher and one will be provided for you. Anyone who does not have a proper sign will be directed to pull to the front and go inside to show identification before we release the student. • All “PARENT WALKERS” (students who are picked up by parents at the door) must also have an appropriate sign in hand. Parents without a sign will be directed to go inside and show identification before we release the student. Again, please contact your child’s teacher if you are in need of a sign. Visitors on campus • All visitors must check in through the front office with proper identification. • Siblings are no longer allowed on campus during school hours with the exception of visiting the cafeteria for lunch or special programs which are held in the cafeteria. • NEW ** PARADES: In order to accommodate parents with young children on parade days, we will begin parading outside from the walker door around to the lobby in addition to the main hallways. If you have siblings with you, you may watch the parade from outside. On bad weather days, parents with siblings will check in and go directly to the cafeteria. The parade will then be led through the main halls and cafeteria. • NEW ** Class parties or special event days: We will request RSVPs in advance. If you plan to attend an event during the school day, and we have already scanned your driver’s license this school year, you may RSVP and your badge will be pre-printed the day of the event. A table will be set up in the lobby to distribute RSVP badges alphabetically. If we have not already scanned your ID this school year, you will be required to check in through the front desk.

Oakland Safety
Parents – we are requesting your cooperation both at morning drop off, and at dismissal time. In the mornings we have had parents pass the other cars in line on the left and speed to the front of the line. You MUST wait in line, for the safety of our students! Also, car doors should NEVER be opened on the driver’s side of the car. Children should ONLY exit the vehicles from the passenger side of the car. Do not drop off students in the faculty lot on Mason. With your cooperation we are able to complete dismissal of over 1,000 students safely by 3:35pm. If your child is designated as a “car rider” you MUST drive through the car pool line to pick your child up. Although the line is long, please be patient – we have it down to a science. It actually moves rather quickly. One way to avoid the long line is to leave your house later, say right at 3:10. Also, please DO NOT drive through the Kids R Kids parking lot or block their driveway. This impedes their parents’ access to their facility. If you do not want to wait in the car pool line, your other option is to redesignate your child as a walker. To do this you must write a note to your child’s teacher and tell him/her that your child will now be either a walker that crosses the street, OR a walker that waits inside for a parent. You must also have your yellow car-rider sign with you, if you pick up your child as a walker who waits inside. We can NO LONGER sign any students out after 2:45 in the afternoon. We will ALSO no longer sign out a child from the car-rider line to a parent who gets out of their car and walks up. Remember that all Fort Bend elementary schools dismiss at 3:10pm so children will begin heading to their dismissal locations at the 3:10 bell. Thank you for your cooperation. Please review the new safety procedures in the attached document.
