The Academy for the Gifted and Talented at Quail Valley Middle School is a program option for students identified as gifted and talented in grades 6-8 in the Fort Bend Independent School District. This program option will engage students in evidence-based curriculum and rich instructional strategies to differentiate for their learning needs. The focus of the Academy is to provide challenging learning opportunities and special curricula that modify learning environments to enhance self-awareness, self-efficacy, problem-solving, and the learning of critical/creative thinking skills. The instructional program will emphasize the development, practice, and transfer of advanced knowledge and skills to assist students in preparing for creative and productive careers.
The curriculum will empower students to pursue their passions and to make important connections through problem-based, interdisciplinary study and investigation. The core curriculum takes a rigorous and innovative approach to mathematics, language arts, science, social studies and foreign language, with technology integrated throughout. Students will have creative options, alternative activities and a plethora of opportunities such as portfolios, presentations and performances to display their mastery of curriculum. Themes and essential questions will shape and focus the curriculum of the Academy program, providing our students with a cohesive and relevant middle school experience.
Extra-curricular activities may include: Math Counts, Science Olympiad, Robotics, Destination Imagination, Pentathlon, History Fair, Science Fair, Mars Rover, band, orchestra, theatre, and sports offered at the middle school level.
