Parent Volunteers
Each year we recommend all parents go online to be cleared as a parent volunteer/ chaperone. This process is detailed on the FBISD web site. In this way we screen all volunteers for a criminal background. It is REQUIRED for any parent volunteering in the school or attending a school trip as a chaperone.

School Hours
All students attend school from 8:10-3:10. The doors open at 7:30 am and any child not in their seat when the 8:10 bell rings is tardy. On days of heavy rainfall we extend the tardy time based on the line of cars.

Absences
When a student is absent they must bring a note when they return to school. On a full sheet of paper, please include the date or dates of the absence, the child’s name, reason for the absence and the teacher’s name. If the note is not received after two days of the absence, it automatically becomes an "unexcused absence." Repeated unexcused absences become a truancy issue. Please help avoid this by sending the note when your child returns. Thank you!

Birthdays at Sugar Mill
On your child's birthday, their name is announced and they receive a birthday pencil and good wishes from the principal. While parents may bring store-bought cookies or cupcakes, these must be eaten in the carpeted classroom during instructional time, so please be cautious about brightly dyed frosting. We ask that you also be sensitive to the varied food allergies that many of your child's classmates may have. We do not deliver party invitations, treats, flowers, balloons, or gifts.

Message from the Principal
Our motto is "Get in the Game!" Sugar Mill is a TEA Recognized School, due to a slight dip in scores last year for a sub-group of students. We want to continue to achieve at levels beyond the TAKS test. We received Gold Performance Acknowledgements for having over 30% of all children, in each group, score at the commended level (90%+) in Reading, Writing, Math, and Science. We are very proud of this focus on advanced achievement. In all subjects, in all areas, in every grade, we want to provide a challending and enriching curriculum. Our goal is increased student achievement in all areas. We also examine how we stand in the Just 4 the Kids rankings, striving to place at the top of our comparable school group. Beth Graham, Principal
