Welcome to Kindergarten Teachers

Welcome to Kindergarten at Scanlan Oaks Elementary! We are looking forward to another successful year. Our goal is to work together as a team, in cooperation with parents and the community, to help each child attain his/her personal success. This year your child will experience a balanced literacy program that includes: phonemic awareness, oral language development, print concepts, read-alouds, shared and guided reading, and shared and interactive writing. In math, your child will use a variety of manipulatives to learn basic math concepts including: geometric shapes, patterning, graphing, addition, subtraction, as well as problem solving. In science, your child will be able to explore the world around them using various hands-on manipulatives, in addition to an extensive unit on ladybugs and a kit that explores the properties of wood and paper. Please help your child be prepared for their busy day in kindergarten by assuring that they come to school well-rested and having eaten a healthy breakfast. We will work together to develop your child’s academic skills along with social, emotional and problem solving skills. All these skills are essential when developing successful students and preparing them for future academic endeavors. We encourage you to be a part of your child’s school experience, both academic and social. Working with your child at home to extend skills covered in class and volunteering when needed, will let you and your child(ren) share these early steps into their academic career..
